Blog Hop – Alison Grey

First, thank you to my publisher for letting me use their blog since I don’t have one of my own yet.

I’ve been tagged by fellow author Jae for the 23rd week of The Next Big Thing Blog Hop.

The idea is to hop from blog to blog to discover exciting books we might not have heard about or that are still works in progress. Each author will answer the same ten questions, then list authors who will answer the questions on their blogs next Wednesday.

So let’s get started…

What is the working title of your book?

My book’s title is Hot Line. The novella has originally been published in German (title: Richtig verbunden). The English version will be available in spring 2013.

Where did the idea come from for the book?

I wondered what kind of people call sex hotlines and what kind of people work there. That’s how everything started. In Hot Line I tell the story of two people who meet under very unusual circumstances and start an even more unusual romance.

What genre does your book fall under?

Hot Line is a contemporary lesbian romance or to be more precise erotic romance.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

That’s a tough one.

While reading, you might get the impression that it’s a Xena Uber fanfic, but I personally never pictured Lucy Lawless and Renee O’Connor as my main characters. I think the graphic designer who created the cover chose a very nice picture to represent Christina and Linda.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Linda, a successful but lonely psychologist, calls Christina’s sex hotline and makes an unexpected proposition that sets them off on an unusual journey.

What is the longer synopsis of your book?

Linda, a successful psychologist, uses her work to distance herself from her own loneliness.

Christina works for a sex hotline to make ends meet.

Their worlds collide when Linda calls Christina’s sex line. Christina quickly realizes Linda is not her usual customer. Instead of wanting phone sex, Linda makes an unexpected proposition. Does Christina dare accept the offer that will change both their lives?

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

Like the German version, Hot Line will be published by Ylva Publishing as an e-book (e.g., at Amazon or Smashwords).

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

I completed the first draft in about one month; then it took me about four months to rewrite, revise, and edit the manuscript before sending it off to the publisher.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

It started out as an attempt to practice writing sex scenes and “sexy scenes.” Phone sex immediately came to mind, and that’s how I came up with the idea that turned into Hot Line.

I’m happy that publishing with Ylva Publishing will give me the chance to make my novella available for English-speaking readers too.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

When Linda and Christina meet, two worlds collide. They come from very different walks of life. In the beginning, it might seem as if a wealthy psychologist and a phone sex operator who barely makes ends meet have nothing in common.

But things are not always what they seem. Beneath Linda’s confident, successful exterior hides a woman who is lonely and insecure.

In the course of the story, both learn to take off their masks with each other and slowly reveal their real selves.

Next Wednesday check out RJ Samuel’s blog to find out about her Next Big Thing.
