Have you ever met someone who lives in a completely disconnected world, whose life is ruled by money, parties, and status? Someone so blinded by fortune that she is living under the impression that everyone owes her the world?

This is the glimpse of Mad’s life we see in the first parts of Contract for Love, by Alison Grey.

At first, it is easy to judge Mad without even knowing her. She is described as an egocentric selfish, cold-hearted snob, who wants nothing more than party her life away and inherit every bit of money left of her father’s company, without sharing neither regrets or remorse on the actions she does. Actions such as blackmailing Sherry, a straight single mom, working as a waitress, to play a part in her big scheme pretending to be her lover. Reading Mad’s transformation into Madison, the partner and family member she becomes in the book is truly astonishing. The cutest moments in the book are Madison and Jake’s relationship, who looks a lot like Madison’s life before her Grandmother came into it and ruined her childhood.

It was my first read of any of Alison Grey’s work and I really loved her writing style. Her characters have been worked on a lot and it shows with the complete background shown to help the reader understand them the complexity of the personalities.

Throughout the book, we meet a variety of characters who all played a part in forging Mad’s personality over the years, but it takes Sherry and Jake in her life to get back the real Madison, who had spent most of her life hidden below the surface, and have her sharing her emotions and feelings, which she isn’t used to.

The difference between Madison’s life, living in the city in a big apartment, owning more money than she knows what to do with, opposed to Sherry, who lives in a trailer park, works two jobs and is barely able to sustain her child’s life is intense. The simple fact that those two characters met and didn’t ripe each other’s head off is still a mystery to me. Sherry is a strong character who has spent her life dealing with bad situations, while Madison always drank and partied away her problems. Seeing them try their best all book long to find compromises and growing together as a ‘’family’’ really made me fall for the book.

I was pleased to read that even if Sherry is a straight character, she still doesn’t hesitate to play her part and respect the terms of her contract, making her a believable prospect in Madison’s life.

This book is a clear representation of how opposite attracts and of how much people can change given the possibility to do so. Madison’s ability to warm up to Sherry and Jake was impressive, and Sherry’s ability to let go and learn to respect Madison was too. I loved how easy they started communicating with their eyes, showing real affection without even noticing it, their complicity taking over.

It is hard to make a complete review of this book without spoiling it because the complete work is worth reading. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a great story with complete characters, who will grow on you faster than you’ll be able to realize.

Where‘s a will there‘s a way… and it‘s got to be my way! That‘s how Mad is thinking. With too much money and nothing left to do, how can a beautiful, young, rich woman spend her days? Right, let‘s get the party started and bring booze and women! But Mad didn‘t think her grandmother would really go through with cutting her out of the will. Mad has to become serious and change her life to stay in the will. But how? While meeting her friend in a diner, she witnesses the money problems of the waitress. So Mad had the great idea to hire the waitress for playing her girlfriend. A few month playing the happy couple and her grandmother will be quiet again and she can go back to her old life. But Mad didn‘t count on her heart, which is starting a complete new way of life.
A really good story, I enjoyed it very much.

What an exceptional character driven, slow burn romance Alison Grey has created with Contract for Love! The character and plot development in this story is truly amazing.
At the beginning of the story we meet Sherry Miller, a young, single mother working two grueling and low paying jobs just to try and keep her and her young son Jake from becoming homeless. Then we meet her polar opposite Madison (Mad) Fielding, a very unlikable, hard partying money hungry snob of a young woman who only cares about her drinking buddies, her parties , and getting as much money as she can to continue this lifestyle. Mad’s problem is the fact that her grandmother, who is even more unlikable than Mad, is threatening to disinherit Mad from the family fortune if she doesn’t change her ways. When Madison accidentally meets Sherry, a wild idea forms in her mind to use Sherry, her son, and Sherry’s best friend Rita Mae to prove to Grandmother Eileen that Madison has changed her ways and become a family woman. This involves all kinds of interesting plot lines that include a bit of blackmail, and other actions that eventually change the lives of most of the characters in the story.
I am in awe at the clever way Ms. Grey created and grew these characters and allowed us to see them grow and change throughout the story. She is a master of character development. That is what makes this such a great story. You really don’t want to miss this one.
I debated on whether to give this book four stars or five. I consider four stars to be a very good story and five to be exceptional in some way. One of the things I ask myself when I’m considering the stars is, would I read this book more than once. I guess you can see what my answer is from the five stars I gave this novel.

This book has me wondering? Does money let you off the hook regarding manners and humility?

The two main characters are like chalk and cheese. One a multi millionaire, who puts the word privilege to shame and has never worked a day in her life. Has no real friends and thinks she is better than anyone else.

The other a hard working woman from no money. Working two jobs just to keep her head above water. She has a young son and a caring neighbor. She lives on a trailer park and not a good environment for anyone. She has a very hardworking ethic.

Ok, so the story has been done before. Two people getting together to convince a third party they had changed. In this case Madison’s aunt. I really disliked Madison. Sort of person who just rubs you the wrong way because for her money is everything and anything can be bought. Until she meets Sherry.

I took an instant dislike to Madison but she turned me around. She woke up in my opinion. By the end I really liked her.

Yes I would recommend this read. Enjoy!

Can a party girl and player change her ways? It was hard to like the character of Madison in the beginning. Rich, selfish, self centred party girl who beds women without thought or consequence. Then you have Sherry.
Sherry is the type of woman who is realistic, down to earth, always looking out for her son and others around her. Fake relationship or not, straight or not, once committed she doesn’t back down. Can Mad and Sherry pull off Madisons plan?
A strong storyline with great characters (both main and support) that invoke both positive and negative emotions for the reader.
A contemporary romance that I enjoyed reading from the start.
