Always a Love Song by Charley Clarke is one second chance romance that I am so glad I was able to read. It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed such a beautiful love story.
This is the tale of Bridget Callahan and Alexandra (Alex) Marlow. At the beginning of the book, Bridget is a popular pop singer who has just broken up with her fianceé, a famous actor. She decides to go to her home town for a little time away, and to work on writing songs with her fellow songwriter for her new album. This will be the first visit in five years though. The reason she has been avoiding going home is her first love, who owns a bar in the small town. There are still hard feelings between Bridget and Alex, and their first encounters are very strained, but can they both overcome their broken hearts and hurt feelings to reconnect in some way?
I am delighted at how well this story is written. The depth of the characters, the strength of the plot and its progression, the way the author uses flashbacks in the perfect spots to compliment the tale, and the emotions she creates with this story is just excellent. I believe this is the author’s debut full length novel. If it is, I can’t wait to read more of her work. If you love a great, well-written second chance romance, then this is the book for you.
I received an ARC from Ylva Publishing for an honest review.

Do second chances end in happiness or heartbreak? Are they worth the risk?
Although I’m not a fan of second chance storylines, it didn’t take long for me to be drawn into the characters lives in this book.
The storyline is strong and the main characters are well developed and interesting. The support cast were many but worked well. Bridget, Alex and their gang of friends meld together well. I didn’t want to like Bridget at first but frustratingly she grew on me! The chemistry between Bridget and Alex is evident throughout and the meshing of past and present experiences help to bring the audience up to date with their relationship.
This is a new author for me. I look forward to reading more from Charley Clarke in the future.
I received an arc copy in exchange for an honest review.

Always a love song by Charley Clarke
Bridget Callahan is on top of the world. Famous from her music all around the globe, she decides to take a breather after her breakup and head towards her hometown. Alex Marlow is a successful woman who owns a bar in town. Will Bridget arrival disrupt all the effort Alex has made to move on or will the angst and hidden feelings break what is left of Alex’s heart.
I am glad I got the change to read and review this book. I had read the synopsis of this book a while back and was looking forward to reading it. It didn’t disappoint. Charley Clarke makes her way into my few favourite writers to read. Always A Love Song is brilliantly written, her characters are well developed, and the story unfolds itself so fast it’s hard to stop reading.
I admire writers who can write beautiful characters and relationships without the need for clothes to fall off at the first moment. Both Bridget and Alex’s back story are clear and even if the timeline goes back and forth between specific moments of their previous lives, the reader always knows where Ms. Clarke is taking them.
I was nicely surprised by this novel and would recommend it to anyone looking for a page-turner. The story is so good it is hard to stop and do something else. I will be adding Charley Clarke to my list of authors to follow, as I am sure many other books she releases will be just as great.
