Description

A lesbian sports romance about breaking all the rules.

Viva Jones was great once. A top ten tennis player with a grand slam trophy to her name, she had the world at her feet. Then an overzealous lineswoman’s bad call knocked her out of the US Open, and a persistent injury crushed her career. While battling to return to the game she loves, a chance meeting with the lineswoman, Gabriela, forces Viva to rethink the past…and the present.
Away from the court, Gabriela is sexy, athletic, and lives for her career as an umpire. She seems to be falling for Viva as hard and fast as Viva is for her. There’s just one problem: players and officials can’t date.

Wow. I absolutely loved this book. I generally enjoy a story set in the world of sports, but the level of detail shown to professional tennis was something else entirely. I could clearly envision every single backhand and serve that were described in this book.
Viva is on her way to repeating as US Open champ when a line judge calls two foot faults, which on top of an atypical backhand that causes a possible career-ending injury makes for plenty of conflict when they meet later in Australia. This is a classic enemies-to-lovers story which is made all the sweeter for the internal conflicts that each woman goes through. Viva needs to quit tennis for the long-term health of her wrist, but giving up the spotlight is tough. Gabriela must remain an impartial judge in her career as a tennis official, so her integrity and reputation force them apart.
When Viva is playing on her farewell tour in Australia she hopes to simply make a decent showing while not further injuring her hand. I could literally feel every single hit of the ball from the vivid descriptions. My heart broke for the bad shots and pain she was desperately trying to conceal.
The secondary characters were all fantastic. Viva’s manager, her coach, her parents and brother, and the other tennis players all contributed to the chemistry of the cast. Gabriela is one of my favorite leads ever. She’s poised, aloof, ramrod straight, but underneath it all she’s a firecracker.
I can’t praise this book enough. Do yourself a favor and choose a rainy day, then settle in for an amazing read.

It was the first time I read a book by Cheyenne Blue and it was a great read. The story is enthralling, the characters are loveable, you feel for them and their misfortune. Being unused to all the Tennis jargon and with the language barrier I still have at times, it took me a few chapters to figure out all the details of the matches and I had to google some of the Tennis rules, so I could be more informed on what was happening and whether it was permitted or not.

The story is fun to follow because the action starts almost at the beginning of the book, getting you hooked as fast as possible and keeping you intrigued all book long.

Women’s tennis, the Australian outback, love, passion and hot sex. What more could one ask from a lesbian romance? Cheyenne Blue has written another heart-achingly beautiful love story, with all of the intense feelings, the desire and the ache of a forbidden relationship. Viva Jones just wants to keep winning but her injured wrist makes it look unlikely. It doesn’t help that she feels cheated out of her last match by a bad call from a line judge. Meeting up with said tennis official brings out a side in her that she doesn’t recognise. Can she ever get past it and admit that she rather likes Gabriela Mendaro? Maybe more than likes her. Even if she can forget the line call, relationships between players are officials are forbidden. I really enjoyed this story. I could feel the need the two women had for each other. The want was palpable. The background of the women’s tennis circuit made it all the more interesting for me. Viva’s outback life was fascinating and I love that aspect of Cheyenne Blue’s novels. The women were operating on very different levels of the game and they both had to find a way of understanding the effect their relationship could have on the other’s professional life. ‘Code of Conduct’ was a lovely story and sure to fill many a heart with joy.

    Love All
Viva Jones is a world class tennis champ from a small town outside Brisbane AU. During a match she suffers a potently career-ending injury. To make matters even worse she has to finish the match with a line woman who is too eager, or so Viva thinks, to ruin her concentration with unfair rulings like foot fault and over time…. Over a year and a half go by when her Dr says there isn’t anything else he can do, she wont play pro again. On her way to see the special specialist, she decided to stop at her parents for a day or two. As she drives along a lonely stretch of road, she nearly crashes as some moron has stalled out in the road. Who should it be? No other than Gabriela Mendaro, the line woman from that oh so important game… Of course Viva rescues her, but what’s next is for you to find out.
Silver – tongued Goddess of the Written Word, Cheyenne Blue, brings us this riveting tale of Viva and Gabriela. I adored this book for so many things. I found the story to be enchanting with a slow, deep seated heat romance that was gloriously torturous, the immense amount of knowledge was interesting and not boring or repetitive, the descriptions of the scenery everywhere the story went, even the secondary characters were wonderful, even the ones you wanted to hate. They all combined so well to make me a part of the story and to feel so many different emotions. One of the reasons I love Ms Blue’s work so much is because she has a vast desire to make the reader come out of her stories with some sort of connection…Love, mushiness, infatuation, deeply desired lust…all of the above and more is the gift she is giving with this book and I can not thank her enough.

    ***free ARC
A book with action, hard trainings, sweaty bodies and a love that’s not allowed. A tennis champ can‘t fall in love with a referee from the tennis circus, can‘t even be seen with one of them. And if that woman made you loose a final game because of her judgement (a foot fault, really?), you have to hate her! So does Viva, but a few months later she finds exactly that woman stranded on a back road in Australia on her way back home. Well, Viva has good manners and takes Gabriela with her, but that only starts alot of troubles.
Cheyenne Blue has done it again and wrote a great book.

I have to say I don’t know that much about tennis but thanks to Cheyenne Blue I was able to enjoy learning little bits a long the way whilst reading ‘Code Of Conduct’. This was a really interesting read because it was not just focused on a tennis player, (Viva) but on people we rarely think about when watching the game – umpires and lines people (Gabriela).
The title spells out the parametres and relationships between players and officials, and this is where the grey appears between the black and white of the rules that exist. Conflict, passion, drama of the game, limits, relationships, decisions on the future all come together to test Viva and Gabriela’s somewhat ill advised relationship. What ultimately is the true cost of love between a player versus a much more marginalised offical in the world of professional tennis?
I enjoyed not only reading the sporting action and the interaction between all those on court. I felt torn between Viva’s destress of potential retirement and what that meant for her with my frustration at times with her selfishness at not seeing what she was doing and how that was affecting others.
Small counrty town verses big city Queensland contrasts nicely with the characters and the limits they face.
Whether you’re a sporting fan or not, I think you would enjoy this book. I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

As an avid tennis fan, I was especially intrigued when I read the blurb of “Code of Conduct,” Cheyenne Blue‘s latest book. A romance between an umpire and a player? I’ve read lesfic romance involving tennis before but….umpire?! No. And that’s refreshing! And I was especially excited to read it during Wimbledon!! I must say, reading this made me look at the umpires in a whole new light! I’m not ashamed to say that I’ve been trying to spot a potential “Gabriela” to pair up with a potential “Viva” out on the courts since Wimbledon started!! It’s been a much more fun experience watching the sport, I can tell ya that! Ta, Blue!

“Code of Conduct” is a forbidden love trope, obviously, because an umpire fraternising with a player could lead to potential match fixing possibilities of some such. But I was not aware of its severity and the consequences as a result until Blue so meticulously defined all the rules and guidelines that control the actions of officials and players, alike, presumably clearly stated in the Code of Conduct booklet. In other words, I learned so much from reading this book! Cheers, Blue! Anyway, back to the story…

    :

This is another wonderful romance by Cheyenne Blue. I love the way her characters become real to the readers, and Viva and Gabriela became very real to me as I read this book. The author obviously did a great deal of research on the inner workings of pro tennis. She artfully infuses a beautiful romance inside the inner workings of pro tennis with a very unlikely pair of lovers. One brief moment changed everything, but none of it can be allowed to go any further because of who they are within the world of tennis.
If you love tennis, you will enjoy this book. If you know nothing about tennis, you will still enjoy this story.

This book came as a very pleasant surprise. It was very well written – and although I have zero knowledge of tennis it conveyed the tension of pro tennis and the crucial plays really well. I enjoyed that a lot. The romance and the main characters are very well defined and not trite at all. I loved especially the Australian setting and the outback — well done!

This is an exciting romance packed with tennis-related facts and I loved every moment.. although at one point, when I realised where the story was going, I had to actually take a break from reading and cool down. That’s how intense it was!

The characters seem very real, ditto the world of tennis with all its ups and downs – Blue sure knows what she’s writing about! The backdrop, too – both the cities and small towns of Australia – is vividly described and I could almost picture myself in there. A very enjoyable read!
