Description

Nora Whitmore has been through the ringer both professionally and personally. Now, her life is more than she ever thought it could be, especially with Kelli McCabe in it. The walls have come down, and she is open to new people and experiences.
Kelli McCabe watched all the broken pieces of her life come together. The situation with her family settled down, and she’s right where she wants to be back at work and in Nora’s arms.
For both of them, this quiet time is just the devastating calm before the massive storm hits and brings with it the violence of a vengeful enemy and the reality of drug abuse. The chaos surrounding them exposes old wounds and individual vulnerabilities that seem to multiply when they are together. Is it too much for them to withstand? Or is what they have strong enough to overcome it all?

I sort of liked the first audio book in the series, but this 2nd installment is a perfect example of how the reader can make a huge difference to how good the experience of ‘reading’ the audio book is. I found the reader of the first book only just OK, with some irritating vocal ticks… But Abby Craden turns this book into a bit of a masterpiece. I LOVE this story… Abby is just brilliant. I’ve heard a few books read by her, and she always does a good job, but I think this is one of her best performances. Or, maybe it’s a good marriage of great writing and a great reader, resulting in something even better. Once I’d got it in my head that this was Kelli and Nora, not a different Abby Craden read story, I was a bit bowled away. Tbh I was surprised by how good this story is, the intensity and maturity is great, the continuation of Kelli and Norma’s story was very grown up… I loved how KD Williamson developed the relationship. It felt raw and real and thoughtful.
Basically, KD Williamson and Abby… Excellent job!
