Description

Two women fall for each others over their rivalry about a dog’s affection in this heartwarming lesbian romance.

Ellie Anderson has given up on love. Her philosophy is “Why let someone in when all they do is leave?” So instead, she fills her life with work and dodges her sister’s matchmaking.

Then she meets Charlie—a gorgeous, brown-eyed Border Terrier.  Charlie is in need of love and a home, prompting Ellie to open the doors to feeling once again. However, she isn’t the only one who is falling for the pup’s charms. Emily Carson is her rival for Charlie’s affection, thus starting what can only be classed as a working relationship.

By allowing herself to love Charlie, can Ellie open her heart to anyone else?

And They Call it Puppy Love
Ellie vows to never have her heart broken again, until she meets Charlie… Then all bets are off. I love how real the characters are in this story. Ellie is just so adorable, cute and loveable, a bit shy, so funny and more than a bit of a klutz. Who hasn’t been in her shoes at some point or another? This book was FULL of funny bits, mostly Ellie’s good humored self bashing and musings.

There were really sweet and tender moments as well. When it was time to be serious, it was all in and VERY well done!

I liked how Ellie was telling the story, it made it more intimate, but not in a sexual way, as if she was letting me see how she thinks and how she had become who she is. However, there was also the sexual type intimacy and…wow!

This is a really sweet book. It has you laughing, crying and at times remembering your best friend who has passed away. Sorry, I should say your furry best friend. It’s written as one of the main characters telling the story and all the thoughts and emotions that go along with it.

The book starts with the two lead characters competing for the same rescue dog. Both falling completely for his brown eyes, fun personality… ok you get where I’m going. Here are two adults competing for the same dog like two kids on Christmas morning wanting the same present. With a whole load of chemistry and lust were thrown into the mix for good measure. Ellie comes across as a bit socially inept. Maybe lacking in experience but the sandwich choking scene had me rolling with laughter.

There is more to this book then meets the eye. The book deals with a difficult subjects of love and loss. Not just loss as in death but also losing your parents because you were gay. It is a book of moving on and healing. How to cope with all kinds of loss. It is all done in a very quirky, funny package. The feelings are not solely for the humans but we also learn of Charlie loves and losses. I do not know how anyone can cruelly treat an animal, I just do not understand.

Despite the serious subject matter, believe it or not it is a fun and light read. Enjoy!

I am a sucker for a beautiful furry face, and can’t seem to pass by any puppy, kitty, horse, or even a cute feathered face on a book cover. It is no surprise to anyone who knows me that I would read a book titled Puppy Love by L.T. Smith, especially with that adorable puppy on the cover (whichever cover you are looking at since there is a new cover for this book).

This novella tells the story of two women who fall in love with the same dog up for adoption at Dogs Trust (a real life shelter for dogs in the UK). Emily and Ellie work out a plan to go to the shelter together every day to play with Charlie the Border Terrier, and whoever he bonds with will get to take him home. Of course you can see where this is going. There just might be more than just human-dog bonding going on, if the two can overcome some past trauma and misunderstandings.

This is an absolutely wonderful, heartwarming story. It is short enough to read in one sitting, but filled with enough romance, love, red bouncy balls, and doggie kisses to make anyone feel happy. The characters are all well-developed and loveable. The setting is beautiful, and the story itself will put a smile on your face for the rest of the day.

What is even more delightful is the fact that the author is donating her profits from this book to the real life Dogs Trust. That means that when you buy this novella, not only are you getting an exceptional story to read, you’ll know that a portion of the money you paid will be helping dogs like Charlie find their forever home with loving owners to care for them. I can’t think of anything better than that.

I received an ARC from Ylva Publishing for an honest review.
