This book has the right amount of love, angst, back stories, friendship and family drama. The book is told entirely from Hayden’s perspective which works well because Sam is a complicated character who very likely suffers from Aspergers (or just decided to close herself off from people due to her upbringing) and thus does not process emotions like Hayden and pretty much everyone else at the hospital they work at.
Nevertheless, as the description states, it is a slow burn and goes on to show how much perception plays a role into our perceived ‘reality’ and can alter greatly when one gets to know a person. This is a fantastic read with the right amount of everything (including length) and worth every cent.
This was my first book by G Benson and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Once again, Benson had me at the first page, unable to put the story down until the end. As usual, i finished the book madly in love with more than one character thanks to trademark-Benson’s epic supporting acts and range of realistic best friends and family. On the surface is a fun, easy to read plotline but dig a little deeper and Who’d Have Thought will have you questioning life, relationships and love. Quite the change from Pieces (not YA and a little less overt with reminding us all not to make assumptions about others) and more like earlier works Flinging It and All The Little Moments. Another to add the the growing Benson library on my kindle and am sure it will get reread soon!

Brilliant
On a whim Hayden answered an ad from a person, who was looking for a woman to marry, just for a year. First she thinks it’s a joke, but soon discovered, it’s not only a woman who is looking for a woman, rather it’s the neurosurgeon, the ice queen, who’s working in the same hospital as she does, and she can’t even stand this person. But the temptation of 200 000$ is too big to ignore, all her financial problems would be solved. However, does she have the endurance to live together for a year with THIS woman, without losing her mind?
The story is, despite the slowly building romance, also about homophobia and illness, and how they deal with this issues. This gave the story depth and reality. Benson has a wonderful way to describe what’s going on in a person. Especially how Hayden’s awareness of Sam slowly is changing. Also the dialogues are very good written, some were witty, some with sarcasm, others filled with pain and guilt. And some with so much affection and love. One of the funniest part was, when the two women had to convince everybody, that they are madly in love.
Hayden was the person I fell in love instantly, she’s funny, sometimes a bit of a klutz, and caring for her patients, for her family and friends. And I loved her cat Frank.
Samantha was another story, she’s not easy to understand but an very intriguing person. Why does she needs a wife for a year? It made me curious, but you have to wait, till you know why. Slowly you learn more and more about the person of Sam, of her upbringing and her family, and you’re beginning to understand a lot of her behavior.
Normally I love a story more, when I get an inside view of both main characters , but in this case it wasn’t really necessary. Although sometimes I would have loved to know what Sam’s thinking.
The two main characters couldn’t be more different. That’s not really new in a story, but in this case it was just the right setting. Also the second characters are very well developed, some of them I liked very much, especially Luce, the non-binary human, and «abuela».
I highly recommend this book to everybody. I couldn’t put down the book. It’s one I will reread. I give 5 stars. And I’m looking forward to another one from G Benson, she’s one of my favorite authors.

I really enjoyed this book. It was editorially clean, which is important to me. It was well written too. The author had me in suspense over a certain aspect right up until the last page! Talk about a nail-biter! The characters seemed like real people, which isn’t a given in fiction. The plot was well thought out, there was no rush to the ending as there is in so many books these days. I highly recommend this book. In fact, I’ve already checked out other books by G. Benson!

This story begins with a common trope in lesfic, the fake girlfriend, but does much with it. The story is engaging without dips and valleys of interest and the drama mark, when it comes, is more believable because of the unique situation both women are in – it’s a contract for a fake marriage after all.
This was my first story with a binary character which gave my mind a gentle workout becoming accustomed to the pronouns. I live in such a Republican village I can’t imagine someone not being endlessly hassled about it.
The writing was well done and I was engaged with the story and did not have my interest fade. Interesting minor characters certainly helped add variety – there is a bit of everything. The romance was slow burn, which I always find more interesting. So, well done G. Benson.

Sam and Hayden are doing the love thing the other way around, they start with the marriage. It was funny to read, to learn about their own problems, getting to know each other. I really liked this book, it’s easy to read, no complicated scenes and a highlight at the end.

I know I like G Benson for a reason. Her writing, her characters, her humour, her descriptions, her stories. They are just excellent.
You start reading Who’d have thought? and start wondering what’s going on. What can be so big for a person to accept a marriage for money and for the other to make the offer.
Hayden is an ER nurse with money issues and a secret. Samantha is a succesful neurosurgeon with a lot of money and a secret. They are both family secrets but for very different reasons.
In this book I have found, once again, that there is more than one way to love. At first it confused me the term “they” when related to Hayden’s best friend Luce until it is perfectly explained. If I learnt in last Jae’s book about asexuality, in this book two new terms I wasn’t familiar with: pansexuality and non-binary. Both feelings so well and sensitively described that I feel I have been missing a lot in this vast world.
We can also find hard homophobia, the hardest I believe, coming from your own family. Well, it is here when I can see G Benson’s skill to write about it as well as she does.
The book is brilliant and I totally recommend it.

The story is about two ladies that marry for money and than fall in love. The story and characters are very well constructed. It’s a slow pace read, no rush to reach the end plenty of time to know everybody secrets and reasons. I was a little disappointed with Sam at some point in the story, I was expecting a little more outrage from her. But that’s the beauty of a well written story you see the characters as real persons and you create expectations about how they will react and sometimes they aren’t fullfilled.
Love the book, love the author. Good read, good romance.

So far I have not read a bad Benson book. And, so it continues. This book is about a marriage of convenience which ends up being a marriage of love. Now there are a lot of ups and downs a long the way. Some are funny, some are serious and some are just because. You have two very different people who come together through an internet advert asking for a wife for a year for money. They just had to make everyone believe it.
I will admit I found the binary part of the book a little confusing at first. I will also admit at first I thought it was an editing error. I know you are laughing at this moment but what is it with societies need to label everything. Are we actually born with the need to label or do we submit to societies pressures or the need of the individual to put a name to it. Well Benson definitely got me thinking and I had to look some stuff up. Too much to remember. But I found the book not only fun to read but also educational.
Benson is an extremely extraordinary story teller. She captivates you from the start and you find your self saying one more page then I’ll go to bed. Good luck with that. Her writing style is easy to read. Enjoy!

I’m always a fan of the fake married trope, and “Who’d Have Thought” is no exception. Hudson’s characters—among which is a nonbinary person—are complex and sympathetic and watching the relationship between Hayden and Sam develop is frustrating but enjoyable. I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to scream at them to just talk to each other. And when they did, the emotional payoff was satisfying.
The only thing I didn’t love was that it took like two-thirds of the book before Sam finally told Hayden what the arrangement was all about. When the reader finally does find out, it’s pretty good reason, but I think Sam probably could’ve told Hayden sooner.
The tension is perfect, though, and the natural progression of two people growing close together was very well done. I’d definitely read this one again.

I Loved this book. I didn’t want to put it down and go to work! It’s always nice to find an author I haven’t read and am blown away by their work. G Benson writes a story that has two great well developed characters supported by a wonderful group of secondary cast.
I want to go back and read this book again!

I absolutely loved this story.
The fake relationship trope is what drew me in, but the characters and their development is what really makes this book so wonderful. I’m so glad I bought this book and can’t wait to read it again.

I was positively surprised by this book, since I had started it looking for a story that would last me a few days, but ended up reading it all in one sitting, unable to move and get my attention elsewhere. This book is both captivating and infuriating at times. The story is well written, and the characters are unique in their ways to act and react to diverse situations given to them. The background of both main characters is complete, and you can easily understand who they are by the way they act, Sam being more reserved, harder to understand and grown up, as Hayden is a little bit more sarcastic, impulsive and easily approachable.

This is the first story I’ve read from G Benson, but it will not be my last. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put the book down, and found myself reading the ending at 3 am on a work night. No regrets! I was blown away by the quality and humanity of this story. I laughed at delightfully unexpected moments, and got a little teary-eyed more than I’d like to admit. I was also pleasantly surprised by how realistic the characters and many of the aspects of this story were, including the clinicians’ points of view. A fantastic situation, yet G Benson’s writing left me thinking it was also believable, and that’s a rare talent.
